Exam tips:
1. Study all videos and book.
2. Practice 300 questions from multiple sources.
3. Analyze each question and review material you don't get
4. Analyze the fastest way to ATTACK each question, without wasting time

5. Write this for subnetting on the board:
128 64 32 16 8 4 2 1
128 192 224 240 248 252 254 255
/25 /26 /27 /28 /29 /30 /31 /32

6. write this:
2^1 = 2
2^2 = 4
2^3 = 8
2^4 = 16
2^5 = 32
2^6 = 64
2^7 = 128
2^8 = 256
2^9 = 512

You can do a hell of a lot of router config (basic and advanced) with:
Cisco Configuration Professional GUI... h ttp://w ww. Cisco .com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps9422/data_sheet_c78_462210.html

There is more to be done, but I want to see more of it... for everything, including in the new exams.
I know a lot of OLD school Cisco engineers hate to see "mere mortals" doing lots of Cisco routers configuration and monitoring very easily with the new CISCO GUI...

They'll get over it.

Of course you should know CLI, but my point is that Cisco should not require you to do EVERYTHING on the CLI, and the exams should require people to know about routing/switching technology and capabilities, as well as sub-netting and network design, but without memorizing hundreds of complex commands worded arbitrarily by their programmers. Especially when those commands are less than intuitive, and just plain weird at times.

The new Cisco GUI should not take too much time to setup either...

What if you come up on a customer with out SDM loaded, or bugged. The CLI knowledge will save your life.

The only reason Cisco exams are difficult is because of Cisco STUPID approach and sadistic methods of testing... such as:
1. Making you memorize hundreds of stupid CLI commands
2. Only giving you 1.5 hrs. for their long exams with sims and more.
3. Not letting students review questions during exam to prevent students from finishing questions they know best, and later do the time consuming ones.
4. Including a lot of confusing questions with similar answers, which require time to analyze.
